Title: - ------ Patterns and Design Adaptability Abstract: - --------- The successful use of patterns in a software development organisation depends on a number of issues. One such issue is the classification of patterns in a manner supportive of the organisation's model of software development. In modern reuse-based and in organisations following a dual-lifecycle model, adaptability of software products is a capital issue. Given this context, this paper discusses the issues and rationale for pattern classification based upon software adaptability, presents two such classification schemes and discusses their effectiveness when applied to two popular pattern languages.
